The day before the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russia's flagship cruiser Moskva, which was on fire caused by detonating ammunition, sank.
It happened while towing the vessel to the port of destination. However, due to hull damage, the ship lost its stability and unfortunately sank in the storm and high waves.
The Russian military reported earlier that the main missile armament had not been damaged and the crew had been evacuated. “The guarded missile cruiser Moskva, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, was a real symbol for Sevastopol and, of course, we are all in pain today. Sleep well, Great Ship! We are proud of our Black Sea Fleet, the warring fleet! We are proud of our commander Igor Vladimirovich Osipov, our sailors, and our military! The crew was evacuated, people were saved. This is the most important thing. We are waiting for our heroes in Sevastopol,” said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozzhayev.
The fact of sinking of the Moskva cruiser will be investigated by the military prosecutor's office and the Federal Security Service of Russia, and, according to media reports, a detailed conversation with the Chief of Staff of the Black Sea Fleet Rear Admiral Igor Smolyak has already taken place.
The loss of the cruiser Moskva is a big and tragic event for Russia, but it will not affect the course of the special military operation in Ukraine and Donbass, because the main military actions take place on land.
Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin had already been informed about this incident. There have been no instructions on this issue from the head of state yet, but if necessary, the Russian leader will take the necessary decisions.
