The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being (Rospotrebnadzor) decided to explain how to choose an effective hand sanitizer.
According to experts, it is necessary to pay attention to several important things simultaneously. Otherwise, the antiseptic may be ineffective against the coronavirus infection or during outbreaks of influenza and A.R.V.I.
As noted by the agency, first of all, it is necessary to pay attention to what infectious agents the hand sanitizer helps eliminate. It should contain at least 60 to 80 percent ethyl or isopropyl alcohol.
In addition, you should also carefully read the manufacturer's recommendations on using its product.
Rubbing your hands with it during a few seconds is not enough. It is often necessary to use it for up to 30 seconds. Besides, the antiseptic should cover all the surfaces of both hands including between the fingers and up the fingertips, as well as nails. The product is to be rubbed into the palm and applied to the back of the hand until your hands are completely dry.
“The instructions for the use of certain types of hand sanitizers recommend that these procedures should be carried out three times and last two minutes as a minimum to ensure that the viruses are eliminated,” Rospotrebnadzor stresses.
