Rosgeologiya geological surveys have significantly increased deposits of gold in the Krasnoyarsk territory. As a minimum, there are two big deposits in the north of the region. Their reserves are estimated at hundreds of billions of rubles.

The expansion of mineral exploration more and more northwards is the trend of the past several decades. Modern technologies make it possible to integrate deposits in the system of economic operations where it has been almost impossible in the past. Let us recall as a minimum the program of development of the Lower Angara area. It was focused exactly on the resources of Boguchansky, Kezhemsky, Severo-Yenisei and Motyginsky districts.

The survey is conducted by Rosgeologiya, which has been the only operator of the federal sub-program titled ‘Reproduction of Mineral Resources Base And Geological Study of Subsoil Assets since 2016. Over the past five years, it alone has fulfilled fourteen government contracts in the Krasnoyarsk territory. The newly discovered gold reserves such as Mamon-Petropavlovsk and Marok ore fields are on the list of geologists’ major achievements. The first field is located in Motyginskiy district and the second one, in Severo-Yenisei district. Not so long ago, an announcement was made at a meeting of government of the Krasnoyarsk territory that the reserves of both deposits stand at about 365.6 billion rubles if expressed in money terms. These are almost two annual budgets of the region. Boris Kavchik, the head of department at the Irkutsk Research Institute of Precious and Rare Metals and Diamonds, explained in his interview with that, taking into account the current price of a tonne of gold at about 3 bln rubles, the case in hand might be more than 120 tonnes of precious metal.

For comparison, last year all Krasnoyarsk gold producers extracted 60.7 tons of gold. The Krasnoyarsk territory holds a leading position among other Russian goldmining regions. For example, in 2018, the neighboring Irkutsk region had an output of 24.8 tones. Like previously, the Polyus Gold company made the main contribution to the output.

By the way, the latter company is likely to be interested in the reserves of the Maroka field. These gold ore deposits are located near the mouth of the small river Maroko, where it flows into Chirimba. From here it is only about 40 km to the village of Eruda, where the major production assets of Polyus Gold are located: Olympiada, Blagodatnoye and Titimukhta. Gold was mined in Maroko and Chirimba in the middle of the 19th century -- with the help of gold digging, naturally. And the river banks were also repeatedly explored. However, a large-scale systematic study has only begun. Today, the reserves here are estimated at 70 tonnes (at the beginning of the decade, the estimates were done by Institute of Precious and Rare Metals and Diamonds,) with the content of gold exceeding 8 grams per ton. From the economic point of view, it is very profitable. For example, the average gold grade at the Olimpiadninsky deposit is 2.82 grams per ton. This is why the Marok deposit has the status of a highly promising one. As for the Mamon-Petropavlovsk ore cluster, gold content may amount to 2 grams per tonne of ore. The whole area of the deposit reaches almost 70 The reports of Federal Agency for Subsoil Management said that it is a poorly developed territory. It may contain a deposit with approximate reserves of 60 tons which is an average indicator for Russia.

Sergei Gorky, the head of Rosgeologiya, said that his department is planning only to gain the pace of geological exploration in Siberia. Apart from gold, the focus is on hydrocarbons (the Payakh zone in the Taimyr) and diamonds. “The Krasnoyarsk territory is one of the most promising regions,” Gorky said. “It is an absolute leader in nonferrous metal mining and production. Therefore, the mineral resource base requires constant reproduction."

As reported earlier, the discovery of a new deposit of lead-zinc ores in the Moryanikha area this year became an important event. The same can be said about the Chuktukonsky deposit of rare earth metals in the Boguchansky district. Experts estimate its reserves at almost five trillion rubles. "Using the heritage of the past is a tendency of geological exploration, which we should halt,” says Yuri Lapshin, the prime minister of the Krasnoyarsk region. “We are a region of abundant natural resources, and we will have to develop in this direction. In terms of reproduction of the mineral resource base, the Yenisei Siberia integrated investment project imposes additional obligations on us."
