Arkhnadzor coordinator Andrei Novichkov told Dozhd TV (which is on the list of foreign agents) that Moscow Mayor's office demolishes not only residential buildings, mansion complexes, old factories and railroad facilities built by prominent architects but also entire neighborhoods.

The largest buildings demolished this year were Prince Peter Oldenburgsky College with the Church of Alexander Nevsky of XIX century in Brigadirsky Lane and the Shelter for blind men with the Church of St. Trifon XIX-XX centuries on Podolsk highway. Novichkov said all these historical buildings had been torn down by excavators.

This year Sergei Sobyanin's office has ordered to demolish the fire station on the premises of the former Reisgof brick factory on the Ochakovskoe highway, the laundry building on the premises of the Main Military Hospital, the outbuilding of the estate of Balashov peasant on Sergei Radonezhsky Street and the carriage house in Abrikosov’s estate in Potapovsky Lane.

Moscow residents have repeatedly criticized the authorities for demolishing old buildings and destroying the old image of the capital. They explain the active dismantling of iconic buildings by the fact that Moscow is not the home city of Sergei Sobyanin, a native of the Tyumen region. A total of 159 historical buildings and structures have been torn down in the Russian capital for last seven years of Sobyanin’s tenure.
