According to experts, one more version should be added to the list of the most likely scenarios made by their colleagues around two particular persons. It is not as much discussed and could be even called unexpected, but in some ways it is even more obvious and predictable.

The plan is that, given all expectations and hopes of ordinary citizens, the year of 2021 with will bring Russia not only vaccination against COVID-19 and gradual stabilization of the epidemic situation but also a number of political events. Incidentally, the latter might turn out to be a kind of continuation of the processes that took place in the corridors of power in the second half of 2020.

Experts believe that in this regard, the upcoming elections to the State Duma are likely to become one of the key factors. As noted by political analysts, the government has already begun cleaning up the political and media scene for them, adopting a number of restrictive laws in the traditional "on-paper” mode. Of course, in the light of the forthcoming election to the Duma, experts expect some change of personalities in the Duma leadership. For example, as the Interim Government Telegram channel says, the discussion about the next Duma Speaker to replace Vyacheslav Volodin has been raging since the first days of the year. In the meantime, according to experts, one more version should be added to the list of the most likely scenarios made by their colleagues around two specific individuals. It is not as discussed and might be even unexpected but in some ways it is even more obvious and predictable.

"The forthcoming election to the State Duma [scheduled for September – ed. note] has kicked off a discussion about a new candidate for Duma Speaker to replace Vyacheslav Volodin. At the moment, they mention Alexey Gordeev, the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, and Andrey Turchak, the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council. Both candidates seem logical. However, the Russian authorities are often accused of a lack of any logic, therefore, Anton Vaino might be also on the list.

It should also be recalled who headed the State Duma of previous convocations apart from Ivan Rybkin and Gennadiy Seleznyov, who represented the CPFR party. There were Vyacheslav Volodin, Sergey Naryshkin, and Boris Gryzlov. For instance, Volodin was first deputy head of the Presidential Administration staff while Naryshkin was even its head. Only Gryzlov was a minister before becoming speaker of the State Duma. Incidentally, Vaino was a minister and even deputy head of the Presidential Administration staff. Now, he is the head of staff of this very administration. In addition, along with Naryshkin and Gryzlov, he is also a member of the Security Council.

The principle is simple. A person who is the most loyal to the President will be appointed to head the State Duma lower house of parliament. Of course, there is no chance to beat Volodin with his “there is no Russia without Putin” declaration, but it is still possible to try doing it,” the Telegram channel says.
