The first session of the Khimki court over Alexey Navalny, the notorious leader of Russia’s off-parliament opposition, was held right in the police station. Experts are likely to voice their opinions later but, in the meantime, Navalny himself has already commented on this situation on entering the makeshift “courtroom.”

Many people believe that the situation with Alexey Navalny who returned to Russia, might develop quite rapidly and unexpectedly even before he left Berlin. However, nobody could predict what there would be open actions against the person “who must not be named in the Kremlin.”

While many predicted that the airport of entry would be changed from Vnukovo to Sheremetyevo in order to continue Navalny’s detaining, and that he would be taken for "overnight accommodation" to one of the police stations in Khimki, further development of the situation surprised even the most skeptical observers who previously thought that anything could be expected from the authorities.

Thus, the first session of the Khimki court over Alexey Navalny, the notorious leader of Russia’s off-parliament opposition, was held right in the police station. Experts are likely to voice their opinions later but, in the meantime, Navalny himself has already commented on this situation on entering the makeshift “courtroom.”

Some experts have already called the “offsite court session”, to put it mildly, an unprecedented event.

“What is going on?” said Navalny. “I don't understand. One minute ago I was taken out of prison to meet with my lawyers. Now, I got straight to the court session. Someone is filming me with cameras. There are unknown people in the hall. All this is called an open session of Khimki court. The question of my detention is being considered at the request of the chief of police.

“Why is the session of the Khimki court taking place in the police office? I don't understand. Why nobody was notified? Why wasn't a summons issued?

“I've seen a lot of mockery of justice. Apparently, the grandpa in the bunker is so scared of everything that the criminal procedure code was just blatantly tore up and flushed down the toilet. What is going on here is impossible. It is the highest lawlessness that one can imagine. There is no other way to describe it.”
