According to scientists, the coronavirus infection was detected even in those patients who had been successfully cured from it. After recovering, they passed several tests for that pathogen, and the results turned out to be negative.
While studying the peculiarities of the novel coronavirus infection, Chinese researchers made another unexpected discovery. According to them, COVID-19 can take root in the human body and remain in it until full recovery. Therefore, tests do not reveal its presence. According to scientists, the coronavirus infection was detected even in the patients who had been successfully cured from it. After recovering, they passed several tests for that pathogen, and the results turned out to be negative.
Consequently, the researchers suspect that in such cases the virus is likely to stay in the patient's lungs. Moreover, it may work its way so deep that changes in his or her lungs cannot be detected even by computer tomography. As noted by experts, it may shed light on the cases where people fully recovered and were discharged from hospitals, but later got back there all the same with reinfection.
The study also described what happened to a 78-year-old Chinese patient. The elderly woman was treated for the coronavirus infection, and then tested negative for it three times. All three tests were negative, and computer tomography scan detected no problems with her lungs. As a result, the woman was discharged and let go home, and a day later she died of a heart attack. Only at the subsequent autopsy did it become known that there were still COVID-19 particles in her lung tissue.
